ScrapSMART.com, the company that provides downloadable images for sewing, quilting, and paper craft projects, is pleased to announce that it has joined a 2007 community service partnership with the American Sewing Guild (ASG) and Wild Ginger Software Inc. to help groups or individuals wishing to sew health-related garments for charitable causes.
Each year, in conjunction with their national conference, the American Sewing Guild (ASG) designates a charity for their national Community Service sewing project. ASG Conference 2007 will be held July 26–29 in Sacramento, California, and the charity selected is Shriners Hospitals for Children–Northern California. ASG members will sew pediatric gowns, pajamas, and accessories for Shriners patients. If you would like to join in this effort, visit www.asg.org and click on Chapter Info to locate the ASG chapter nearest you.
Wild Ginger Software has contributed to this program by designing free downloadable iCare sewing patterns (short for Intensive Care for the Spirit) for patient medical care. Available in adult as well as children’s sizes, the iCare patterns are available to anyone who wishes to sew health-care garments for non-profit or charitable purposes. Patterns are quick and easy to download from www.wildginger.com. Pick the view and size you wish to make and print off the pattern, which prints in sections. Then tape the sections together and you are ready to cut and sew. (Layout and sewing instructions are included.) The pattern downloads are free to anyone who wishes to sew garments for non-profit or charitable causes.
ScrapSMART.com helps add the finishing touch to these projects by providing local groups and individuals with a free downloadable fabric label that personalizes their lovingly sewn iCare garments. The label includes both ASG and iCare logos plus additional space for organizations, chapters, or individuals to add their own names and/or messages. The downloadable fabric label designs are available at www.ScrapSMART.com in Microsoft Word and PDF formats, and are set up ten to a page.

Use any inkjet desktop printer to print the labels on fabric sheets, cut them apart, turn the edges under, and stitch to your iCare garment. Even easier, back the labels with fusible web, trim close, and fuse in place. ScrapSMART has also extended a 20% discount for printable fabric for ASG members to use for creating the iCare labels. According to Reenie Feingold, founder of ScrapSMART, “We are proud to be part of this great partnership. The ScrapSMART iCare garment label helps every service project to be easily associated with ASG and iCare and carries the personal pride of the individual sewer and/or ASG chapter or neighborhood group. The label will create a connection between the ASG chapter that donates the garments and the individual recipients. Knowing where the gifts come from allows the organizations and individual recipients to further connect though personal friendships and caring.”
